The afterparty had already begun to hum with low conversation and the clink of glasses as the first audience members filtered into the softly lit lounge. Tucked high in the observation deck of the cruise liner, the venue curved in a gentle crescent around panoramic windows, now dimmed to a dusk-like hue, with distant stars drifting silently past. Tables stood in elegant clusters, draped in white linens that caught the golden glow of overhead lighting. A generous spread of food—mostly tailored to human tastes—lined one side: baked brie oozing at the edges, herbed finger sandwiches, fruit skewers arranged in neat spirals, and miniature desserts placed like tiny edible sculptures. One side table, less assuming but steadily gathering attention, offered a beloved offworld bakery selection: syrupy Bajoran sweetcakes, airy Risan puffbread, and a daring tray of Vulcan spice rolls whose potent aroma lingered long after a bite. Mid-tempo jazz with the occasional synth flourish flowed through the room, warm and unobtrusive, cushioning the early tension of mingling strangers. There was a building energy in the air, a sense of pause held between breaths. Everyone was waiting. The cast hadn’t arrived. Melody hadn’t arrived. But her presence already stretched across the space, in the timing of glances toward the door, in the quiet anticipation threaded through every grin and clink of glass. Tonight wasn’t just a party. It was a cast-and-crew Q&A followed by open mingling—a soft exhale after the storm of lights and lines—a moment to let the mask slip just a little, before tomorrow's curtain call returned.

Someone who was here already was Alyssa -- as she didn't really have much of a job in the show itself, she was here before the show ended, and assumed her role of impromptu door supervisor. Of course she wasn't the only bouncer -- but she felt it was necessary for Starfleet-level surveillance for a party of this caliber. Ironically, she wasn't in the Security division -- but it's not like this was a difficult job, plus she volunteered to help. Anything for Melody. Alyssa had a good idea of who was coming from 777, so she had no problem letting them in as Melody already connected with them prior to opening night. For now, she was bursting with pride for her girlfriend -- who she hoped in the back of her mind would have a chance to make it to Broadway.

Telim Tr'Hara | CIV BOT 06-Jul-25 09:50 PM
Telim, having accompanied his father to the FDS Vulcan sun as Vara'l had indicated he would, raced toward the door with his father's hand tightly clasped. "Comon dad comon!" The kid exclaimed as he practically pulled them along behind him focused on them and not was on front of him, pulled and pulled as he raced. "Comooon!" Charged along and proceeded to run straight into the person standing infront of the door as he thumped into them, bounced off and landed on his butt. Did so and blinked a bit before he proceeded to stand up and wave at the person as he proceeded to say. "Hello!" Before he added. "I'm Telim, its good to meet you, sorry about crashing into you!" And pointed to his dad. The CTO that happened to loom protectively behind him having likely determined he was fine. "My Father's here!"

Having been pulled along behind his son, Vara'l hadn't really managed to get a. "Watch out behind you." Out in a way his son had seemed to really clock so could only really watch as the small Romulan bounced off the Lieutenant Commander. The event watched as he then stepped up and checked on them and once he confirmed they were okay. A hand offered to his charge, his son as he perhaps unintentionally loomed over them as he smiled at Alyssa. All thoughts of other things banished for a time in a mixed medley of amusement and what could be best described as a fathers love for a son. "Jolan tru, I'm indeed here, Hi." (edited)

The curly haired redhead half-saw the two of them approaching, and especially since it was Vara'l she could tell it was him from a mile away. So when she saw the tiny Romulan barrel towards her, she didn't react with hostility, but she did try to keep Telim from falling. "Oh---! Oh my goodness, are you okay?" Alyssa said. "We have a doctor coming, do you need medical attentio--" It was then when she noticed Vara'l was there, and didn't really exhibit a facial expression which warranted concern. "Well, we'll have a doctor here just in case. Hi Telim! I'm Alyssa. Nice to meet you! I'm glad you seem alright." Alyssa returned to attention in front of Vara'l. "Chief Tactical Officer on deck," Alyssa greeted Vara'l. "Welcome, sir. Thanks so much for coming to opening night! And congratulations on a well deserved promotion. How are you and Telim this evening?"

Telim, as he bounced a bit and smiled at Alyssa proceeded to quickly say. "I'm okay Ms Alyssa, its just a bump and I'm a kid, I bounced!" The words followed by a giggle before as he looked up at them, actually really appreciative of this persons words, he then proceeded to say. "I really appreciate you saying that though Ms, thank you for the concern, I'm alright!" The kid's smile genuine as he then glanced to his dad. Glanced to them and then back to Alyssa. That honest concern freely showed actually something he found he really appreciated! The part of that how are you directed at him responded to with a simple smile as he declared. "Happy!" Declared that and spotted food and breathed out as he observed. "Woaaaaaahh cake!"

Vara'l, having attended in a simple but smart green shirt decorated waistcoat and black trousers, honestly hadn't expected to have someone stand at attention before him. Not that that showed, surprise supressed as he smiled and assumed attention himself and said. "Thank you though please, at ease, i'm on Shore leave." The smile natural and maintained as he ruffled Telims hair gently and proceeded to speak some more. "Thank you for having us, we really enjoyed it, was well worth coming to see!" The statement followed by a glance down at Telim as his son nodded in agreement. "We popped out briefly during intermission for a brief sensory break in a quiet space but, managed to see it all!"

Conveniently behind Vara'l was the little shit herself! Essen was dressed in a beautiful satin red dress, complete with satin gloves, red heels, and her hair and makeup done to absolute precision. She held the show program book in her hand. Essen had to admit, this was one of the best shows she'd ever seen live, albeit one of the only shows she'd ever seen live, but this show had something special to it. "Hey, sir and Telim!" Essen greeted Vara'l and Telim. "I got caught up behind some of the audience." Then she noticed... "Ayyeeee! Alyssa! You're working the door tonight!"

"Of course, Telim, I'm glad you're okay," Alyssa said gently to Telim, before she looked back up to Vara'l. She did stand at ease now as Vara'l requested, since it was shore leave and he wasn't on duty. "Absolutely, sir, you are very welcome," Alyssa replied. "I'm so glad you enjoyed and I am sure Mels will be even more excited to hear that you enjoyed it. I figured you and Telim might need a break, the intermission was well placed for this show. I kept you both in the back of my mind hoping you two were doing alright." Alyssa chuckled when Telim pointed out the cake. "Heh, er, yes, there's cake, but it's not all for you," she joked. "But you'll be able to get a slice of it, no problem." As she looked back up to Vara'l. "He's definitely an energetic one, eh, sir?" She said to Vara'l. That is when Essen walked up behind Vara'l and greeted Alyssa. "Theeeere she is," Alyssa said. "Theeeeere's the troublemaker." (edited)

"The inter-mission was really good, helped us recharge!" Telim responded with a soft smile before he proceeded to move up to Vara'l and hugged them. "Did alright!"

And, in the corner, was Silver! In all his 6’4, unsettling-looking glory! It couldn’t be helped considering he had bright yellow glowing eyes and diamond-shaped pupils that narrowed into slits considering he was quite close to a light source and his eyes were sensitive (having been built for work on a hull in the darkness of space, or an exterior of a building in a nighttime storm like on Cryo-IV. His calf-length white hair was left down, and he was wearing something a bit more formal- a black dress that went down a bit past his knees, with a slit that went to his mid-thigh, plus black high heels (that he was not very used to wearing, but he was trying his best). All in all, he looked sort of unsettling, but he was just chilling, happy to have seen a good show.

Essen gave a smile to Vara'l, Telim, Alyssa and Silver. "Hello hello!" Essen greeted everyone. "I am glad everyone liked the show, I definitely did! I had high hopes, and this show exceeded my expectations. I can see why it's going to Broadway."

Lt. Cdr. Alyssa Hayes | TAC BOT 07-Jul-25 12:41 AM
Alyssa nodded in agreement with Essen. "Me too, I was more than surprised to see just how comprhensive this show was. Mels never fails to surprise me, and she pulled through for this show. This is the first time I have ever seen her perform live." As she then looked back to Vara'l and Telim. "I'm very glad you both also enjoyed the show, and it was a great experience for you both. You deserve it. You three can head inside! Mels should be there with the rest of the cast soon." Alyssa then looked to Silver. "Hey there, friend! Can I ask for your name, please?"

“Ah! I am Silver, but my name on the ticket should be SILV3- R. It’s good to meet you, this was an amazing show!” She said, her voice much less unsettling than her appearance. She was a very sweet person, her body just unfortunately fell into that sort of uncanny valley territory.

Lt. Cdr. Alyssa Hayes | TAC BOT 07-Jul-25 02:16 AM
Alyssa nodded, and checked the name roster to ensure she had the correct person. She didn't think anything of the uncanny valley - she was grateful Silver was here, that she came to see the show, and that she was here to support a great party. "Ah, yes! There you are," Alyssa said, pinpointing Silver on the list. "Nice to meet you as well, Silver! Lieutenant Commander Alyssa Hayes, Tactical, Field Instructor. I'm Melody Marshall's girlfriend. I'm so glad you enjoyed the show! Melody and the others should be in shortly, there is going to be a Q&A setup soon. You're all set to head on inside and mingle, get some refreshments!"

And just on cue, there was none other than the former ACMO himself, MatPet. He was dressed in a pristine, lintless, deep dark grey tuxedo, with a precise bowtie and cufflinks. He certainly dressed more for the occasion than some others did, but he certainly had the style to back it up. "Hey there, Alyssa," Matryx greeted her. "I assume this is where we report to for the afterparty?"

Lt. Cdr. Alyssa Hayes | TAC BOT 07-Jul-25 02:24 AM
Alyssa's eyes met those of the former ACMO, noticing the familiar form of MatPet. Her face lit up again when she saw him. "Heyyy, there he is! Yessir, commander," Alyssa replied to him. "Welcome to the lounge! The cast and crew Q&A should be happening soon. Melody was insistent on inviting you and for good reason, she's going to be very happy to see you. How have you been?"

Lt. Cdr. Matryx Peterson | MED BOT 07-Jul-25 02:28 AM
Matryx couldn't help but chuckle at Alyssa's greeting. "It is I indeed," Matryx humored her and went along with the greeting. Matryx certainly was a fan of #Melyssa. "Thank you, Alyssa, I am honored that Melody chose to invite me, it definitely means a lot to me that she wanted me to be part of something that is going to be with her for the rest of her life. I'm so happy I could be a part of it all. I've been well, finally able to balance work and life, how about yourself?"

Lt. Cdr. Alyssa Hayes | TAC BOT 07-Jul-25 02:34 AM
Alyssa nodded in gratitude. "As am I, commander, definitely," Alyssa replied. "Thanks for being here and supporting not just Melody but myself and all of us as well. Me? I've been doing well too, things have quieted down for shore leave, so I've been able to balance things better lately. But I am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things once we return home from staying here on this cruiseliner. We should set up a time to get drinks, you, me, and Melody, if you're amenable. Could even happen tonight, hah! You're all set, commander. I'll see you inside shortly!"

Matryx pondered the possibility. Pondered it... and then nodded in agreement. "I'm amenable to that, drinks would be lovely to be able to catch up with you both. Absolutely, could even happen tonight. I'll see you inside, Alyssa, thanks for all that you do," Matryx said, before he strolled on into the lounge proper.

A few minutes behind, but not too far, was none other than the stage manager. May was already in a nice outfit for the afterparty, although still comfortable given that she had been wearing it the whole night since before the show began. She approached Alyssa. "Hey Alyssa, I'm here," May greeted her.

"Heh, thank you, Alyssa," May chuckled. "Even though at times it didn't feel tight, we were locked in for this show, definitely. I can't wait to see the look on everyone's faces. We're all set in the back? Wonderful. Thanks Alyssa!" As she stepped inside.

"It was really fun, loud but the good sort of loud!" Telim had responded to Alyssa, their statement about the cake having been reacted to with a simple smile as he'd looked up at his father for permission. A smile that happened to grow two sized when that affirmative 'you can have a slice' nod arrived. Eyes flicking to the other new arrival then, swift as he briefly moved behind his father slightly and peeked out at them. Watched the conversation go on before he then grabbed his father and started to pull them inside and waved at the lady. Waved and tugged on Vara'ls arm some more. "Hello!" A greeting initially offered before he proceeded to add. "Comon daaad, caaaake!"

Though Vara'l had initially attempted to stay put to talk to the former ACMO, he did indeed respond to his sons silent query about cake with a nodded affirmative. "Jolan tru, Lieutenant Commander." The nod one he quickly discovered the unforeseen consequences of as his greeting was interrupted by a small kids tugs. "-It'd appear I'll need to talk to you later, I promised Telim food." A apology offered swiftly as he was tugged or well, allowed himself to be tugged inside the lounge by a small enthusiastic Romulan. Once inside, Vara'l waved at the other person he spotted, a lady he'd not met before who'd identified herself as Silver to Alyssa. Waved and proceeded to say. "Jolan tru." *As he swiftly signed to his son and suggested he go see about that slice of cake, only one though. The suggestion issued as he angled himself to keep watch on them. "I don't believe we've met before."

Matryx could only chuckle as he looked over to Vara'l who had addressed him. It was evident, though, that Telim wanted food, and Matryx definitely wasn't one to judge that. "How are ya, Commander? It's great to see you again. Congrats on the new role--" and that's when Telim pulled Vara'l to get food. "Heh, no worries, it's probably in all our best interests if Telim got food," Matryx joked lightheartedly.

Silver gave another lil head bow when he realized that he was being addressed by someone, walking a lil closer. Being an android, they could be very observant, and so it was rare that they missed someone addressing them. They tucked a stray strand of hair behind their ear before speaking. “Hello, I do not think we have met either. I might have seen you on the station, though, if you are also a member of Starbase 777’s crew. My name is Silver, it is good to meet you.”

Her bow responded too with one of his own, smooth as he smiled, Vara'l listened politely and then responded. His smile growing warmer as he introduced himself. "I am indeed a member of 777's crew, I'm Lieutenant Commander Vara'l tr'Hara." Eyes flicking to Telim as he signed a reminder quickly to them that one slice of cake happened to mean one before he looked back. "I'm the Chief Tactical officer, its very good to meet you too Silver." That greeting followed by a pause, a smile something that pulled at his face once more at another glimpsed sight of his son. Just the one slice of cake clasped carefully in their hands. "If I may ask, how have you found the show?"

May Maille | NPC BOT 07-Jul-25 07:50 PM
Over the indistinct chatter -- well, indistinct from where she was, anyway, it was distinct chatter for everyone who was talking -- May scanned the area briefly, taking in just how energized the VIPs were. May grabbed a mocktail glass and sipped from it -- mm! Raspberry! Everyone seemed to be in great spirits, and May definitely needed that after however many months of constant planning, marking, running, running back, and organizing. This was the celebration of it all. May stepped up to a panel area for the Q&A, and tapped the side of her mocktail glass to get everyone's attention. "Good evening everyone, if I could have your attention, please," May announced, her voice carried over the PA system in the lounge. "I would like to formally welcome you to the opening night afterparty for the universal premiere of 'With Love From The Siren!'" As she then applauded, and encouraged others to do the same, before she stopped. "I'm May Maille, and I'm the stage manager for this production, I'd like to say thank you, thank you, thank you for making this opening night memorable, and celebrating this momentous occasion. This show has something special for all of us. The cast, crew, creative team, and myself have all seen it. In seeing the transformation of the Sirens we have seen what makes us all, individually, who we are at our core. I propose a toast..." As she raised her glass. "To the opening night of this wonderful musical. Cheers!" After the toast, May took a sip, then continued. "Now is the moment you all have been waiting for," May said. "It is my great pleasure to introduce to you all: Director Dylan Buchanan, Musical Director Odin Holbach, and the cast and crew of 'With Love From The Siren,' led out by none other than the Siren herself, Melody Marshall!"

Melody Marshall | CIV BOT 07-Jul-25 07:56 PM
With the applause, a curtain at the back of the lounge opened to reveal the star herself in a beautiful sequined dress! No longer adorned with tattered clothing, messy hair or opaque contact lenses, Melody looked as stunning as ever. She waved out to the VIP party goers; to those she knew her face lit up and she gave an extra special wave to. Having been through an intense rehearsal process, Melody learned the importance of not holding up anyone else -- so she didn't waste any time getting out from the curtain. She scurried over to Alyssa, and gave her a quick hug and a peck on the lips before she returned to the panel. "Hey everyone!!" Melody addressed the party goers during the applause. "Thank youuuu!!" Melody was taken aback by just how supportive the crowd was, not that they wouldn't be, but it was still an invigorating feeling.

Odin was not far behind Melody, not as energetic as she was, but still his expression was positive: he was indeed satisfied with the performance, and was proud of the cast for all their hard work. He smiled and waved at the crowd, and sat beside Melody. "Thank you," Odin said to the crowd during their applause.

Alyssa made sure the other bouncers were okay before she stepped away, to head into the lounge. She made it in time for Melody's quick hug and kiss, chuckling a bit before she went over and picked up a small microphone-like device. She stood at the side of the room, ready to head over to anyone who had a question with the mic.

May also took her spot at the panel, and sat beside Odin. "Alright, wonderful! This is of course the Q&A session of the evening, we'll have a brief session now, and afterwards you'll have your chance to freely mingle with the cast and crew in an informal way. Feel free to still grab food and drinks, just please be mindful of your noise while doing so. If anyone has a question, please flag Lt. Cdr. Lt. Cdr. Matryx Peterson | MED BOT 07-Jul-25 10:34 PM
Matryx also got himself a mocktail glass -- he just didn't feel like having actual alcohol -- and naturally, his wandering had him gravitate back towards Vara'l, Essen, Telim, and Silver. It helped that all of them were naturally gravitated together in the first place, so Matryx didn't have to go far. Still, he took a sip of his mocktail -- a strawberry one instead of raspberry, but still it tasted quite good. "Well, if it isn't the one and only," Matryx joked to Essen. "Good to see you again, Essen. I'm guessing you enjoyed the show too--" Matryx was about to continue, and then introduce himself to Silver, but he was cut off by May's announcement. "We'll have to catch up after the Q&A," Matryx said to both Essen and Silver. As May spoke, Matryx and the VIPs applauded when appropriate to do so. His claps were not as loud as other people's, but still heartfelt nonetheless. He was indeed very proud of Melody. He raised his glass to toast with May and the others. "Cheers," Matryx said in unison with everyone else, and he took a sip. Once again he applauded, and even let out a "Whoo!" when Melody, the cast and creative team entered into the lounge and took their places behind the panel. Matryx waited until someone else asked the first question in the Q&A discussion.

The little shit batted her eyes pridefully to the former ACMO when he called her the one and only. "Don't you forget it," she joked back to him. "Good to see you again, Commander." She also didn't get a chance to respond further when May began talking. But Essen also applauded and even cheered a little when May led the group in their first round of applause. Essen didn't have a mocktail, so she quickly grabbed one and raised her glass. "Cheers," she joined everyone, and sipped from the glass. That's when May introduced and revealed Melody, the cast and creative team as they walked out. Essen clapped and cheered loudly. "YOU GO, GIRL!!!!" Essen called out affectionately to Melody. Thankfully, her cheer was masked by the other applause and cheers, so that it wasn't piercing the moment.

Silver perhaps did not clap as insanely hard as some people, he was more polite with it as he usually was with more formal things. Still, he did clap, with a smile on his face as he saw the star of the show enter. He had loved Melody’s acting, she had put a lot of emotion into her role. He had seen a few (smaller) plays and musicals in his life, one during his first year of life when he still lived on Okinawa at the Institute, a few in Marseille when he was going to the Academy, but those were all in Japanese and French, respectively, so this was the first one he’d seen in Standard. His question was less about the show, more about the actress, so he hoped it was alright. So, he raised his hand to flag down Alyssa (having Long Arms made it easy).

“Ah, this is less about the show and more about the actress but, I have to wonder, Miss Marshall, how did you get into acting? Your acting style was amazing, very memorable.” She asked, her hands clasped together in front of her to keep from doing anything too embarrassing.

Melody Marshall | CIV BOT 08-Jul-25 03:12 PM
Melody leaned forward towards her own microphone, with a chuckle, before she answered. "Oh gosh, going back years now, aren't I?" She said. "Firstly I want to say thank you so much for your compliment, I cannot say I expected to be in such a fierce role for my Equity principal debut. My personality and typical demeanor differs so much from the Siren's personality and demeanor, it's an interesting contrast that I enjoy exploring every show." She took a moment to reminisce. "But to answer your question," she continued. "Contrary to popular belief, I didn't necessarily grow up thinking I'd get into acting, but I definitely saw myself getting into music. My family raised me on music and singing, so I naturally thought the outlet for that passion I had was just to sing. Then, my parents introduced me to musical theatre. It wasn't just an opportunity for me to sing, but also to express myself as a person, to let loose without consequence or judgement. So, I decided to give it a shot in middle school, and I fell in love with acting right then and there. I've made strides to push beyond what I thought I was capable of, and I'll admit, there were some times when my acting wasn't the best in my early days. Repetition and trial and error were key for me to nail the specific acting style that spoke to me, and I've stuck with that ever since. Especially for something like this show, I had to tap into a part of myself that almost no one sees, that even I don't see on a regular basis. But the root of it all is taking risks. Matryx nodded along with the response Melody gave -- and he couldn't contain his smile. Not that it was out of control, it wasn't -- but his pride for how much Melody had become so well said and purposeful about her words was refreshing to both see and hear. He badly wanted to applaud after Melody's response, but since nobody else did and it wasn't appropriate for the moment, he applauded her in his mind. Matryx raised his hand to call Alyssa over -- he had a question he wanted to ask!

Alyssa was also beaming with pride for her girlfriend. She was honestly a little surprised to see just how well Melody commanded the floor, even out of character. A tear of pride leaked from her right eye, as she looked on with a huge smile. Finally, when Matryx raised his hand, Alyssa moved over to him and gave him the mic. "Go ahead, Commander," Alyssa told him.

Matryx nodded to Alyssa. "Thanks, Alyssa," Matryx replied, before he looked to Odin. "Odin, my question is for you. I noticed throughout the show that there are many different motifs of obviously good and evil, but also the contrast between classical and contemporary, the strings and brass versus the guitar, bass and drums. Did you find it difficult to be able to separate the two musically for the audience, so that the contrast was even clearer, or was that pretty easy?"
Avatar
Odin Holbach | NPC BOT 08-Jul-25 06:43 PM
Odin thought about the question that Matryx asked, and then did his best to give a decent answer. "I can't really speak for Kalyn the composer on this," Odin began. "But from my own standpoint as a musical director, it was a bit of both. You have that contrast made between the contemporary and classical, the evil and good, like you said, and that part was easy to at least recognize; the difficult part was how to be able to display that difference so that it acted as a theatrical forwards. This isn't the first musical to blend contemporary and classical, and it certainly won't be the last; but what made this show so unique for me to direct musically, was the juxtaposition of what a character felt, versus what they observed, and how to immerse the audience into that. That was the difficult part. How could we use rock specifically to be able to tap into the Siren's vengeful tendencies, or how could we use the strings specifically to dial into Jack's softer side as he connects with Haley? To play on that and make it convincing, to bring the audience into their minds which are being distorted by the Siren's song? That was difficult. We definitely had to play around, and I had a few conversations with Kalyn to make sure I was being faithful to the score while also experimenting with that immersive factor." (edited)

Vara'l listened intently as the director talked, steel grey hued eyes fixed upon Odin as he considered their words. Considered them as he walked over to Telim, helped himself to his own piece of cake and placed a hand on his sons shoulder. Checked on him as he listened, series of signed comments between the two something that passed quickly. The older Romulan calm as, as the signed conversation arrived at its end and he mused on their words. Found that like his son, he'd no questions that had ended up coming to mind yet. Vara'l wasn't particularly sure what someone asked at these sorts of events, he realized. So well, he remained silent and ruminated, searched for a possible question in his mind.

Silver nodded upon hearing the answer to her question- she was happy that Melody had gotten to do something she’d wanted for a long time. Though, it admittedly did not take much for Silver to be happy for someone, she was very empathetic. Silver had not paid much attention to anything musical or acting-related besides the few plays she’d gone to, and this show had been the best one of all of them in her opinion. Silver’s voice was not awful, it sounded normal, but she didn’t think it sounded particularly good either, and Silver’s normal way of existing was usually a little stiff and unnatural, not very good for acting. Still, she liked to watch other people do it. Everyone had been asking very great questions, and Silver had been very interested in all the answers, but she didn’t think she had any more to ask.

Of course, the tribble incident was a while ago -- but she wanted to demonstrate her initiative for wanting to go a step further. So, she raised her hand.

Essen spoke into the microphone. "I have a question for May the Stage Manager," Essen said. "May, my question is not as specifically geared towards the theatrical aspect, but specifically the management part of stage management. How do you handle it all? What steps do you take to balance it all, and what communication strategies do you use to ensure you can keep everyone safe onstage but also keep the show running smoothly?" Essen's eyes drifted briefly over to Vara'l. She knew that the CTO's job was vastly different than a stage manager. She was more interested in the leadership side, being demonstrable and an example to others. (edited)

May Maille | NPC BOT 11-Jul-25 05:41 PM
May had a response seemingly locked and loaded. "You said it: communication, communication, communication. If you don't communicate, then assume someone else has no semblance of the plan. Especially for something like this show. With sets as massive as these, and with the sheer number of cues for lighting, sound, and automation, if someone isn't on the same page at all times, they're at risk of getting hurt, or equipment could be damaged, or a number of other problems." As she placed a hand under her chin and perched her elbow against the table. "But in terms of specific communication strategy: for my role, communication during the show is direct and to the point. I'm not saying, 'oh, hey, that was a nice scene transition!' Of course, that's obviously kind, but it's unsafe when all of the operators have to focus. It's always: 'standby lights 53 and sound 39. Lights, go, sound, go.' Prioritize how you communicate during the show versus, for example, after the show when banter is not as frowned upon. But being able to balance it all, and knowing how to communicate what at what time? It all comes down to planning." May looked over to Odin and Dylan. "I worked hard with Odin and Dylan to ensure I maintained their vision, and I have a full prompt book that I use to cue the show manually. We chose to go manual for this show because of so many moving parts. So planning out every single second of the show is extremely important. From that planning, comes the balance. If I see in the prompt book that I'm doing too much at one moment in time, I go back into the prompt book to try and reallocate the tasks accordingly, and I talk with Dylan and Odin, and we make compromises where we need to. It's not just the planning, but rehearsing, and repetition. The simple act of repetition alone makes calling the show much less daunting, because you know what to expect. That being said, you always need to be flexible and adapt to when things go wrong." (edited)

"My question is for Dylan," Alyssa said. "I'm curious, like May said, I -- and all of us, really -- have seen the show, but what was your vision for this show? What message in this show spoke to you that you wanted to communicate?"

Dylan was halfway through sipping from his thermos — lukewarm coffee, definitely — when Alyssa asked the question. He choked slightly, laughed, and lowered the cup with a grin. “What a question.” He wiped his mouth slowly on his sleeve, suddenly a little more awake.“What a damn good question. I could give you ten different answers depending on the day, and they’d all be true. But here’s the one I keep coming back to.” Dylan leaned back as they continued.“This show is about what happens when we give too much of ourselves away. When the performance takes over the person. The Siren’s song — that temptation — it’s different for each character. For Jack, it’s love. For Haley, it’s grief. For the Siren herself, it might be freedom. But in the end, it’s all the same chord: desire so strong it rewrites who we are.” He looked around the cast that was sitting with him. *“What spoke to me is the warning underneath the melody — not ‘don’t feel,’ but ‘don’t lose yourself while feeling.’ That’s what I wanted the audience to wrestle with. And that’s what I wanted each of you to wrestle with, in every song, every scene. The idea that love, beauty, even duty… can become a trap if you stop seeing where you end and the role begins.” *He smiles faintly as he moves his hands while he talks. “That’s why it’s a siren song. Because it’s beautiful, and it still pulls you under.” (edited)

"Folks, we're going to pause the Q&A session right here, I know we've only hit a few questions so far, but I have received a message from FedCast Co. that I think you all may want to hear." May's beaming smile practically stretched off her face. "After only two preview performances aboard this cruiseliner, the official Broadway cast for 'With Love From The Siren' has been announced, and FedCast has authorized us to share the news. This cruiseliner production will continue its full run -- the original creative team will helm the new production on Broadway." She took a breath. "The cast for the Broadway production: Gwen Lockey. Silas Tokath. M'Kreva. Namkcoll Sh'Vroni. Walker Alder. Poleia Saavei. Telai Tr'Mire as Lt. Enzo Ocano. Hroni Sh'dethi as Ensign Brany Mara. Karla Faulknen as Lt. Haley Forgrave. Siana Male as Lt. Melody expected the Q&A to continue from there; however, when May pointed out that there was a message from FedCast, her stomach filled with butterflies. If this came directly from the talent agency, then there was definitely something worth announcing. Melody's focus was laser-beamed on May. When May announced that the Broadway cast was set, Melody's eyes popped open. Ugh, the anticipation!! It was getting to her already -- as May read the list of names, Melody recognized each and every one of them -- it was THIS cast. Here, on the Vulcan Sun. Was that a sign...? As May read off the roles for Madelyn, B'Tora, Selor, Jack... her stomach filled with butterflies. She'd accepted the possibility she wasn't fit for Broadway, especially when hearing Leah's name as being the Siren alternate---wait. ALTERNATE?? That meant there was a main Siren--! When Melody heard her name, her face lit up like complete daytime. "O-oh my gahh...HAHAAAA!" *She exclaimed as she rose from her seat in overwhelmed joy, and rushed to Alyssa, giving her the tightest hug!!! It was official - Melody was going to perform on BROADWAY!* (edited)

Apparently, FedCast was confident that their casting was perfect for Broadway---BROADWAY?? The cast was going to be announced TONIGHT?? Alyssa set down the microphone and held her hands to her mouth. As May rattled off the names, Alyssa recognized a good few of them. Not everyone, but most everyone. Then, it came down to the Siren. When May looked to Melody and confirmed that Melody was part of the cast, Alyssa's face also lit up like daytime. Melody was going to be the Siren on Broadway!! "YEAAAAAAHHHHAHAHAHAHAAAAH!" Alyssa exclaimed as she opened her arms to await her girlfriend barreling in. She caught Melody in a hug -- she picked Melody up and spun her around! "I'm so proud of you... you did it!!" The initial statement one he followed up with words picked with equal care as those steel grey hued eyes flicked to Essen and smiled slightly. A smile he maintained as he looked back to May. "I believe the Lieutenant has covered quite a lot of it." He commenced as he idly tussled his sons hair and signed a brief one handed reminder that he'd only allowed his son one slice of cake. "There's quite a lot of variety in Starfleet, anything from diplomacy and research to rescue missions and ...other duties." Careful as he continued, conscious of his sons presence. "The Lieutenant is correct though, its far less dramatized than it is in your show and well." He paused for a moment then, a glance briefly flicked at his son then back to May as he then continued. "Ideally, the diplomats ensure that there'll be no need for defensive efforts to be undertaken in the first place."

She couldn't help but chuckle at the whole 'dramatized' mention that not only Essen but also Vara'l picked up on. "Heh, if Starfleet were this dramatized all the time, then this storyline definitely wouldn't fit the show," May joked. "Jokes aside, thank you for confirming our accuracy on all other fronts. Our dramaturgs did extensive research on how to be able to capture the Starfleet look, feel, and behaviors as accurately as we could, and it makes me happy to hear from you, real-life Starfleet officers, that we represented you correctly. That is a big thing we were worried about. All of us on the team deeply respect and admire Starfleet and we didn't want to do a disservice by misrepresenting you." May's expression softened as she took in Essen's question. "Your lieutenant here is quite curious and eager, you are lucky to have her in your division," May said to Vara'l. "But to answer your question, Essen -- and I think all three of you might find this interesting -- dramaturgs are pretty much the experts on research for a show. They analyze the text in a show, and from there, they do research to ensure the way we are portraying the show is accurate to the playwright, the composer and lyricist, and that the director's vision aligns with that. It's also important that dramaturgs conduct outside research for a show, extraneous details that may come up in rehearsals that actors, the director, or others might want to know to maintain accuracy. Our dramaturgs helped Dylan settle on the concept he chose for the show, and when performers like Melody had a question on how to portray a certain scene or speak a certain line depending on its scientific or historical accuracy, the dramaturgs helped inform them. You said you are a tactician? I imagine there is some level of tactical research you or others in your division do to make sound decisions in the smooth running of the division. The same principle applies for dramaturgs -- of course, they don't operate weapons or any of that."

"You're welcome." He'd proceeded to say then, having decided that he'd not voice anything he'd noticed. A slight twitch of the jaw muscle all that might have betrayed a initial wish to speak consciously surpressed. There and gone, as his gaze briefly flicked to Telim again and back to May as she spoke as she did. The part of his mind that noted how she'd responded to Telim's words heeded briefly as he gauged his sons response. "As my son said, food is one thing, a show is another and he likes both." Grey hued eyes briefly upon his son once more, Vara'ls gaze returned to May after a moment. Watched them and smiled politely as he issued a simple response. "Indeed." Before he lapsed into silence and listened to them explain things. Glanced to Essen again before he twitched a eyebrow at her very briefly then, as he noted how she was looking at him, proceeded to speak. "It was quite close, indeed." The initial flicker of emotion that had displayed itself as he observed May, considered how she'd spoken around Telim, something that was quickly suppressed as eyes confirmed what hearing implant gathered sound had suggested. He'd just been approached by his boss. Well, his direct boss, body shifting as training kicked in and he reacted. Vara'l smoothly shifting as he adopted something close to an at attention posture as he responded. "Jolan tru, Sir." He started to say then, part of his focus on Telim as he continued. "I am doing reasonably well sir, just here with my son at present." Steel grey eyes betraying little as his gaze briefly flicked to May and then returned to Rii. "I was just talking with ms May here, alongside Essen, sir." The Romulan proceeded on to say as his his jaw tensed briefly. "My son left us too it, he's off in the corner gaming for a bit." Vara'l's tone carefully controlled, devoid of the medley of emotion he currently experienced. "How are you, if you don't mind my asking, sir?" He then asked.

The baker was so caught up in conversations with others, she was taken a little by surprise when Rii just materialized (not literally, of course), but she was ecstatic to see them. "Commander Relem!!!" Melody almost squeaked, and approached them. "Thank you so much!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! I'm gonna miss you and everyone else when I go to Broadway. I love making all sorts of baked goodies for you!! But I will be sure that when I come back I will have a bunch of new recipes and things to try out! Maybe I'll even be able to bake for the cast and crew on Broadway." As she then looked to May as Vara'l mentioned her. "Yessir, Commander tr'Hara!! Thank you and Telim for coming as well!! I am so happy you both are here!" Then, she looked to May, and back to Rii. "Oh yeah! Commander Relem, this is May Maille! The stage manager. May, this is none other than the Deputy Commander for Starbase 777. Commander Rii Pin Relem!"

May being close to Melody once more allowed her to easily greet the -- wait. Did Melody say Deputy Commander?? Like... The first officer of an actual, real life starbase? Internally, May freaked out because she had never met someone with as much of a tenure as a commander, let alone a station deputy. Externally, however, May kept her cool, and gave a respectful bow to the commander. "It is an honor to meet you, Commander Relem," May greeted them. "To say this is a privilege for you to attend our show, one which has such a strong respect for Starfleet and all they do, is an understatement." (edited)

Vara'l smiled politely at Melody as he turned toward then, appreciative for the distraction from May as it was unintentionally offered to him. The earlier conversation something he continued to work over in his head as he responded to Melody though the medley of emotion quietened slightly, briefly. "Thank you for having us, Ms Marshal, we really loved the show." He responded as he elected to try and not betray how his opinion of ms Maille had dropped slightly and continued. "We're both happy to be here and congratulations on the Broadway part." Telim kept carefully in view as he talked with Melody, eyes attentive for anything that might have betrayed more about how what had happened might have impacted his young adoptive son. When Melody's focus turned to Commander Relem as did Mays, Vara'l bowed slightly to the commander then. "Please excuse me sir, I need to check on my son." He'd then proceeded to say. "I'll just be a moment." Before he excused himself from the now engaged in conversation with two people, XO. Vara'l then smoothly and smartly headed over to his son then, settling in alongside them on the couch Telim had claimed. Once sat he didn't initially speak as he watched and waited for his son to reach the end of the current bit of building work he was engaged in on Minecraft. When that point arrived, he'd gently placed a hand on Telims shoulder and signed in RSL. "How you doing?" Picked the language they so often used at home just as father and son, the language Telim had decided to learn as a surprise to his father for his birthday. A choice he hoped might help with grounding, as he watched for his sons response.

Aware of his father as he approached but focused on his game, knowing full well that if it'd been important for his father to have his attention now they would have pinged his his PADD, Telim initially focused on finishing what he'd started to do. Working with swift movements, he carefully manipulated his character on the PADD as he placed block after block. Each tapped placement of stone or other materials from the block palette he'd gotten his father to help him with something that further realized what he'd wanted out of this gaming session. That objective being to finish of a wall of the house he'd been working off. A wall that needed to be finished if he wanted his character to not end up with mobs walking into the house he planned to move his bed too. A objective he achieved swiftly and with his character having only fallen off, accidentally at least, three times before he'd completed it. Did so and then turned in response to the gentle pressure of his fathers hand on his shoulder. Their signed query one he smiled at, the question deeply appreciated. Appreciated as he carefully placed the PADD down to one side of him and scooted up closer to his father, the question carefully considered at first. The kids jaw working a bit as he eventually, emotions having been somewhat interrogated (though he didn't quite understand how adults managed all their certainty all the time.) , responded. "I'm okay I guess?" He'd signed then, facial expression carefully sculpted to underline his lack of certainty with the guess sign. "Just used to you and the people we know on the station, if its something adulty and you don't want me hearing, you tell me and then ask me to go to my room for a bit." Telim had then shrugged a bit and softly huffed. "I'm okay." The commented signed before he silently asked for a hug and hugged his father when they nodded.

Essen stood and watched quietly as Rii, Melody, Vara'l and May talked. She nodded in response to Vara'l mentioning that he was talking with her and May earlier. "It's... It's really good to see you, sir," Essen told Rii. She half wanted to say 'I've missed you.' But she figured it was already evident in the tone of her voice.

Grey eyes flicked to Melody briefly at her words as she'd called over. With a smile briefly offered to her, Vara'l pitched his voice to carry the distance as he'd responded with a. "You're welcome and, thank you though you don't have to do that, I don't know how we'd ever repay you for that, that's too much." The Romulan replied before his focus had turned to his son and the conversation they'd had.

Rii hovered just slightly off the floor as they listened to Melody’s effusive greeting with a faint smile. One arm—Zara—gestured warmly in return, while Basalith’s pacing slowed behind them, briefly calmed by the attention. The cluster of their form seemed to glow a little warmer in the low light. * *When introduced, they turned their gaze to May, pausing mid-hover as though grounding themselves fully for the greeting.“Ms. Maille,” Rii greeted with a bow that was part ceremony, part instinct. “This one is grateful to meet you. And please,” they offered, eyes crinkling slightly at the corners, “titles only carry weight if we let them. Deputy Commander or not, I’m mostly just one voice in a very collaborative crew. Much like your cast, I suspect—none of it works if we aren’t all in step.”Their expression softened once more as they looked after Vara’l and Telim, a faint murmur rippling through the Colony—something between a hum and a pulse of shared memory. Basalith let out a silent thrum of frustration—Vara’l had escaped before they could speak again. Rii didn’t outwardly react, but the internal sentiment echoed faintly: Oh drat.
23:09
The Romulan had always kept a careful distance from them. Not disrespectful—never that—but reserved in a way that suggested old instincts, old barriers. One of the few on the station who remained... frosty. Rii had been making quiet efforts—conversations here and there, small gestures meant to thaw the edges. Nothing forced. Nothing formal. But now? Another opportunity slipped neatly away. And yet... They inclined their head slightly, watching Vara’l disappear across the room with the quiet grace of someone trained to vanish without leaving a wake.“He’s a dutiful man. A devoted father,” Rii murmured at last, just enough to acknowledge, not enough to linger. But now wasn’t the moment to dwell. With a smooth shift of posture, their floating form glided back toward May and Melody, Basalith trailing silently behind. “A beautiful night,”They said, voice light again, easy. “The kind that reminds us just how much life happens outside the duty roster. Thank you—both of you—for that.”

Telim leaned into the hug with his dad, appreciative of the grounding pressure his fathers hug offered him as he looked over their shoulder at the room. Shielded from the noise of it by his headphones, Telim briefly spotted the green person around the other adults. Not really batting a eye at the fact he was pretty sure the person was scattered around in several parts, the kid having assumed the person was really actually multiple persons, Telim waved at them. Well waved at part of them, though he happened to not know if the part could have noticed the wave, it was fine if they couldn't though. He kind of just wanted to say hi. "Hello!" The kid humMed then as he waved briefly then just hugged his dad again cause he liked hugs and well, hug.

Okay… the RPer missed a LOT. Silver, however, had stepped out of the main party for a moment to get some air and recenter herself, it was quite loud and she just needed a moment. But, she’d come back just as quickly, and now that Melody was out mingling, she set out to find and congratulate her.

"Heh, you just can't contain the Siren, now can you?" May said to Rii with a chuckle. "Commander, it's not often I get to see actual Starfleet officers attending shows, so this is definitely a treat. If I might, I am open to your feedback on the show, as it's headed to Broadway much sooner than any of us anticipated. What would you, in your position and with your Starfleet tenure, wish for the show to look, feel, or sound like for the Broadway production?" (edited)

Sat with his son, the two hugged for a bit longer before Vara'l gently partly broke from the hug and looked to Telims PADD then signed. "So, how have things been going in building the house on your Minecraft world?" A gently questioned asked to get his son talking about something that he knew Telim liked, Vara'l attentive as he watched the other. The question asked now as well, he knew Telim would talk to him more about what had occurred if he wanted to and well, he happened to know it was a important thing for Telim. They'd spent a lot of time on the Minecraft world they'd worked on and Telim had updated him on this new builds progress several times, enlisted his help with it once or twice too, though he reckoned the kid knew far more about Minecraft than he did. "What bit were you working on, can I see?" He'd then added.

Swift as he activated it, the young Romulan then signed. "They've been going really well dad, finished off the wall, only fell off a few times." The kid informed Vara'l softly before he then perked up and nodded at the other question. "Sure!" He then shifted further in the hug, settled in sat next to his father and slightly lent into them, before he showed his father his build progress. "The pallete you helped me choose works really well!"

Melody's expression was already super duper happy, but as soon as Silver reminded her that she was going to Broadway -- not that Melody necessarily needed reminding, because everyone knew at this point -- her face lit up even more. "Aaaaaah thank you!!" Melody replied to Silver. "It's so nice to finally meet you too!! I've never met someone who especially loved my acting! Most people focus on my singing! I'm curious, what specifically did you like about my acting that stood out to you??"

Rii tilted their head, as if listening inward—somewhere deep within the Colony’s shared awareness—then returned their gaze to May with a quiet, thoughtful smile.“This one believes... the only thing we would change is the ending.”Their tone was calm and contemplative—less a critique, more a soft offering.“Even if the story is meant as a tragedy, we prefer it when it leaves room for hope. Jack’s sacrifice was deeply moving, yes—but we find ourselves questioning whether it reflects the Starfleet we know.” They paused, grounding the next words with steady certainty.“Starfleet officers are often asked to face the impossible. But never alone. That is the difference between sacrifice... and abandonment.”Their gaze lowered slightly, words settling like stone into still water.“Starfleet does not forsake its own. Even when peace is at stake, we do not believe the Federation would so readily allow one of its own to walk into the unknown—unaccompanied, and unrecovered. That is not the duty we were taught. That is not the Federation we serve.” A gentle breath. A shift of expression.“But… it’s a bit late to rewrite the ending, isn’t it?” Their smile held quiet admiration. *“It’s a beautiful play. Truly. You've created something that lingers.” *At that moment, across the room, Telim caught sight of Rii’s lower half—Basalith—and gave a casual, friendly wave.Basalith, still slightly disconnected from Rii’s upper half, paused, turned, took out one of their hands, waved, and began walking toward Telim and Vara’l. Rii blinked, glanced downward at the now-departing legs, and tilted their head with faint resignation.“…Ah.”They looked back to May, offering a dry, apologetic smile.“This one needs to go where our legs are going. Please excuse us.”

divider Their hands, acting almost of their own accord, offered a brief, uneven wave—followed by Rii gently reuniting with their lower half mid-stride as they walked away.“And thank you, again,” they called back, voice still warm, still entirely present, even as their body carried them onward as they went to Vara'l and Telim

May was like a sponge when she absorbed every last word that Rii spoke. It was integral that she got feedback from them, especially given that someone like Rii, besides the fact that they were a commander, had enough experience and knew the values of Starfleet to a T. That was important. "Of course, Commander," May replied. "Thank you for your honesty. The playwright Kedric Cedeno was one of the main advocates for Jack's sacrifice as it was written, but you have a point, and that was reflected in the discussions we had when the producers selected the creative team. There was some back and forth, especially with Dylan, the dramaturgs, and the producers as to whether it should be changed or not. The producers chose to keep the ending as is, and they're above myself, Odin, and even Dylan." With a hopeful breath, she continued. "But if I presented your insights to them, perhaps we may be able to sway their decision for the Broadway run; or, if they were set in their decision from the beginning, make other efforts to show our respect for Starfleet and how it truly operates, with no one getting left behind. That is the least we can do to thank all of you for your service to us in the Federation." May nodded in understanding when Rii said to excuse them. May was thankful even to have met a Starfleet officer in the first place, let alone someone as wise, experienced, and thoughtful as Rii. (edited)

Steel grey eyes focused upon his sons PADD as they showed him the Minecraft world, took in the build he was presented with with a warm smile as he observed. "It's coming along quite nicely." Vara'l's words truthful, not dressed up for Telim as he happened to know that Telim would see right through that. "No more zombies trying to slip in through holes now." Each comment offered in swift and smoothly signed words, contented to allow Telim to dictate what language they used. The Romulan then lent forward again before he then hummed and observed. "You're getting very good with that palette, it looks very good and the things you've added to it really make the decorations you're going for pop, if that's the right word for it?" He frowned and chuckled then as he signed, admiration telegraphed to colour the tone of the sign with the emotion. "You know far more than I do about that." He'd then ruffled Telims hair again, the smile that pulled at his face entirely natural around his son and the enthusiasm the lad had when it came to creativity expressed through Minecraft. Given all Telim, all they'd both been through in the past, Vara'l treasured every moment where Telim felt comfortable enough to just be a kid. It was in a way why he'd so disliked what had occurred earlier, only part of it as he'd disapproved of that for a myriad of reasons including the fact that Telim had not liked it. Not like the chuckled observation made about him after he'd replied to the member of show crew, May. But, they'd worked through that mostly now, he hoped. Telim looked grounded, to his eyes at least and he also looked to be focused on the Minecraft talk. Talk that, as it progressed, further built within him a certain awe at how many ideas Telim happened to keep within that head of his related to Minecraft builds. "You going to build some more houses like this one, grow your village?" He asked then.

"Thanks!" Telim signed as he grinned, one hand carefully kept on the PADD he clutched as he continued to show Vara'l the build. "Yep, no more zombies, don't wanna end up being chased around by a baby zombie again." He'd then added and grimaced to underline how much he disliked that mob, a lot by the way, before he'd added. "A lot lit up the whole build and around it too, which helps!" When his father spotted the things he'd added to the Pallette and indicated their approval, Telims grim widened further. Widened as he idly translated a initial wish to bounce into a bobbed movement of one leg, something his dad had informed him was be called a stim. "That is the right word!" He'd confirmed in RSL before he'd then added. "I just watched a whole bunch of videos about it is all, though thank you for the compliment dad!" As Vara'l tussled his hair a bit and he smiled up at him. Telim, one eye on what was going on elsewhere then, actually giggled a bit at his fathers question. He knew they knew he liked building and that the answer was probably a yes, though Telim really appreciated the question. While what Vara'l had done wasn't something he fully happened to understand, he reckoned he felt a lot better after a bit of gaming and his dad coming over as he had. More grounded at least, he loved his dad. "Of course I am!" He smiled and declared as he spotted legs approaching and the rest of the green person as they followed along. "It'd be lonely if it wasn't included!" Switching to SSL once he reckoned the other adult was close enough, slowed down and accompanied by spoken speech as he added. "If it works it's gonna be cool!" And then looked over to Rii and waved. "Hello!"

Normally impassive grey hued eyes ones that utterly failed to hide the fatherly love he felt for the lad. "That's amazing, all this from videos, you're rather good at researching and picking up new skills Telim." The Romulan had then added when the other had commented as they had about the Palette. Then, Telim has switched to speech and sign. A switch he'd mirrored. Something that he certainly picked up on and wondered about as he responded initially. "I suspected and I imgine it shall, I look forward to seeing how it'll turn out." Words and sign sincere as he'd continued to wonder why Telim had switched. Well, that was until Telim turned and greeted someone and he turned with them. Beheld the approaching form of the XO as the distance between the duo and the colony continued to shrink. Spotted them and inclined his head in a seated polite bow to them. "Jolan tru, Commander." He'd then said, voice clear as he'd greeted the XO. "Apologies for disappearing earlier."

As for your acting, I just think you convey emotion very well. I had to learn how to do that once I was activated, so I pay attention to it when watching other people.” She said, taking a sip of her water. Rii’s arrival unfolded in their usual, deliberate rhythm—legs stepping forward with quiet intent, torso flowing smoothly into place, and finally their head descending with a soft hum, settling gently atop their shoulders as they came to a stop near Vara’l and Telim. They offered a serene nod, expression unreadable but warm. “Jolan tru, Commander,”they greeted Vara’l, then looked to Telim with equal warmth and a small smile. “And greetings to you as well. You seem quite focused—clearly something important is underway.”Their tone was low and easy—disarmingly neutral, the kind that gently swept awkwardness aside like dust. “We assumed you’d either been requisitioned by Starfleet… or conscripted into a side quest,”they added, glancing between the two. “Given your company, we’re betting on the latter.” As their attention settled more fully on Telim, Rii’s lower half took a quiet, deliberate step forward—then paused. A faint vibration moved through their torso, subtle but rising with intent. Without ceremony, the lower half—Basalith—detached. Silent and eyeless, it drifted toward Telim’s side with steady purpose. Though it had no face, its intent was clear: it wanted to see. Or understand. Or be near what the child was doing. Hands folded neatly behind its back, it came to rest just beside him, angled slightly as if listening. Rii’s upper half floated forward separately, torso and head now hovering a few feet in front of Telim and Vara’l. Arms at rest, expression composed, they spoke with quiet warmth. “…Basalith, my lower body is curious.” They said simply, as if it were explanation enough.“This one can’t quite see what you’re working on,” they said, eyes now turned properly toward Telim. “But you seem very focused. Would you mind telling us what you're playing?”

Melody replied. "That's so kind of you to say! Since I learned to sing before I learned to act, it was a bigger task to learn how to act, and I am so proud of myself for putting in that work to get to where I'm at now." She found herself curious as to why Silver would watch other people. "Activated? Oh! Are you a synthetic life form?" Melody asked, not wanting to assume the exact species that Silver was. His son was doing better now, but he wanted to ensure that should someone approach, he spotted them and could therefore react to them, first. "A very safe bet." He'd then watched as Rii started to converse with his son, careful for any sign that might have indicated discomfort from the kid as one of Rii's colony separated off like they did. Happy when he discovered no such sign. A hand gentle as he pressed it against his sons back as he quietly indicated he was present.

When the commanders body proceeded to split again like that after having landed and combined before, Telim's already existing amazement roared was boosted tenfold. His mind racing as he wondered after Rii and their segments, resisted the urge to ask if his guess that they'd happened to be individual people, as he perked up at their explaination. "Oh!"
